The new Valencian company is developing an automated artificial pancreas to improve the control of type 1 diabetes.

The Valencian office Tomarial Lawyers, Economists and Consultants has provided legal advice on the incorporation of Colibri Biomed, A technology-based company that emerged from the research environment of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). The new company is developing a pioneering automated artificial pancreas technology, capable of managing insulin administration based on data from a continuous glucose monitor, without manual intervention from the patient.

Tomarial's legal department, headed by Tomás Vázquez Lépinette along with Isabel Gandia y Héctor Martín, has been responsible for comprehensive legal advice in the incorporation of the company and in defining the corporate framework between the founding partners and the university.

Colibri Biomed was founded by researchers Jorge Bondia Company and José Luis Díez Ruano, from the University Institute of Automation and Industrial Informatics (ai2) at the UPV (Polytechnic University of Valencia), and the university itself is a partner. Professionals from the venture builder Day One, specializing in technology projects in the healthcare sector, also participated in the process.

The collaboration between the UPV and Tomarial is part of a long-standing commitment to supporting knowledge transfer and fostering new technology spin-offs originating from the university environment. In the case of Colibri Biomed, the ultimate goal is to facilitate simpler and safer management of type 1 diabetes through advanced automated control systems that allow people with type 1 diabetes to achieve the desired balance between glycemic control and quality of life.
